Ferrari’s future in question: will Hamilton make way for rising star Bearman?

Title: Ferrari's Dilemma: The Rising Star Bearman vs. The Untouchable Hamilton

In the high-octane world of Formula 1, the spotlight is once again shining brightly on Ferrari, but this time, the focus is on a formidable clash of talents—Lewis Hamilton and rising star Ollie Bearman. As the 2026 World Championship unfolds, the stakes have never been higher for the Scuderia, and they must act swiftly to assess the potential of their Haas driver.

David Coulthard, the former F1 ace, recently emphasized the urgency of putting Bearman to the test within the Ferrari framework. The buzz surrounding the Hamilton-Ferrari connection has been palpable since 2025, a year that ultimately disappointed fans as Charles Leclerc triumphed over the seven-time world champion. However, the current standings show that the rivalry is neck and neck, with Leclerc edging Hamilton by a mere point thanks to a better finish in the Sprint at the Chinese Grand Prix.

Both drivers have secured a podium each, and in qualifying, they stand equally matched, setting the stage for an intense battle. Yet Bearman, the young prodigy driving for Haas, is quickly making a name for himself, currently sitting fifth in the Drivers' Championship with 17 points. His remarkable performance in China, where he held off the relentless Max Verstappen until the Red Bull star's unfortunate retirement, showcased his potential and tenacity on the track.

Despite Bearman's impressive trajectory, the reality is stark: the racing landscape dominated by McLaren, Red Bull, and Aston Martin leaves little room for a newcomer like him at Ferrari—especially with Leclerc and Hamilton both proving their mettle. During a recent episode of the podcast “Up to Speed,” Coulthard and host Will Buxton delved into Bearman's future, agreeing that it’s not a matter of *if* he will race for Ferrari but *when*.

Coulthard articulated the pressure Ferrari faces with Hamilton in the mix: “I assume that eventually, Hamilton will step aside. When a star is on the rise, like Bearman, you must seize the moment and test him. It's a completely different ballgame to exceed expectations in a pressure-free environment like Haas compared to the intense scrutiny of Ferrari, where a mere fraction of a second can define your fate.”

Yet, with Hamilton's current form showing no signs of waning, the prospect of the British icon making way for Bearman remains a daunting challenge. As the F1 community watches with bated breath, Ferrari must navigate this intricate web of talent and expectations, balancing the ambition of a rising star against the legacy of one of the sport's greatest drivers.

The question lingers: Will Ferrari embrace the future with Bearman, or will they cling to the established greatness of Hamilton? As the championship progresses, the answer may redefine the trajectory of the Scuderia's legacy in Formula 1. Fans and analysts alike are left on the edge of their seats, awaiting what promises to be a thrilling showdown on the track.
