Ferrari’s Bold Move: Fred Vasseur Lauds Barcelona Shakedown as a Crucial Step Forward!

In a high-octane kickoff to the Formula 1 season, Ferrari’s team principal Fred Vasseur has declared the recent shakedown in Barcelona a monumental leap for the Scuderia as they delve into the intricacies of the new SF-26. With the stakes soaring and eyes firmly glued to the track, Ferrari edged past its rival Mercedes in Thursday’s lap count, completing an impressive 170 laps compared to Mercedes’ 168 laps, marking a promising start to the testing phase.

As the engines roared and the thrill of competition electrified the air, Vasseur couldn’t contain his excitement. “It was an interesting first day with slicks for us,” he exclaimed, reflecting on the team’s performance after a wet initial day. “Yesterday was a very good session with something like 180 laps on the board. This is important for the team, for their ability to accumulate mileage and learn about the car.”

The seasoned Ferrari boss acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead, emphasizing that while this shakedown was merely the beginning, it represented a significant milestone. “We still have a long way to go before Melbourne and the season,” Vasseur noted, “but today was a very good first step. The ability to run and put mileage in is crucial. More can be done, but at some point, you have to stop to refuel!”

Despite the shakedown’s preliminary nature, the urgency is palpable. With a completely reimagined fleet of cars for the 2026 season, Vasseur underscored the importance of logging laps. “You have tons of topics to scan on the car, from aero to mechanical to engine. Energy deployment is a big topic for everybody. You have to scan every single parameter, and it takes time. The best way to do it is to stay on track,” he explained, setting the stage for a rigorous testing agenda.

Adding to the anticipation, Charles Leclerc, one of Ferrari’s star drivers, expressed his eagerness to explore the depth of their new machine. “The checklist is still massive, so there are many things we want to test and try differently, whether it’s some set-up on the car or some approaches with this new system,” he remarked.

However, the performance landscape remains murky for the young driver. “In terms of performance, I have no idea where we are. It’s just a huge question mark,” Leclerc admitted, highlighting the uncertainty that accompanies such a transformative season.

As the adrenaline-fueled drama unfolds, Ferrari has laid the groundwork for what could be a groundbreaking year. With the team poised for success, all eyes will be on them as they gear up for the next round of tests in Bahrain. The road to victory is long, but with Vasseur at the helm and a formidable team behind him, Ferrari is revving up for an exhilarating season ahead!
