Ferrari’s Fred Vasseur embraces Hamilton and Leclerc’s fierce criticism: a bold path to F1 redemption

Ferrari’s Fred Vasseur Unleashes a New Era: Drivers Criticism is Welcome!

In a shocking twist in the world of Formula 1, Ferrari’s boss, Fred Vasseur, has thrown down the gauntlet, declaring that he welcomes the vocal criticisms of his star drivers, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. This bold stance comes on the heels of a disastrous 2025 season for the Scuderia, which saw them languishing in fourth place, unable to secure a single grand prix victory. Tensions were palpable as the team’s chairman, John Elkann, expressed his discontent, urging the duo to “focus on driving and talk less.” However, Vasseur remains unfazed and unapologetic.

The 2025 season was nothing short of a nightmare for Ferrari. After losing the 2024 championship to McLaren in a heart-stopping finale, the Scuderia’s performance hit rock bottom. The frustration was evident when both Leclerc and Hamilton finished fifth and sixth in the drivers’ standings, respectively. Hamilton did not hold back, famously declaring at the Brazilian Grand Prix, “it’s a nightmare,” following the team’s double DNF.

Yet, Vasseur sees things differently. The Ferrari chief downplayed Elkann’s concerns, emphasizing that the most critical dialogue happens behind closed doors, not in the spotlight. “I don’t pay attention to the reaction in the TV pen,” Vasseur stated after a lackluster finish at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

What’s more, Vasseur insists that emotional outbursts on the radio are a necessary part of the team’s evolution. He regards Leclerc’s critical nature as a fundamental aspect of his character—one that he has witnessed for over a decade. “Charles has always been a bit critical, but it’s always in a positive dynamic,” Vasseur explained. “He was always complaining about everything, and that’s a positive dynamic that we are here to do a better job.”

The Ferrari boss further revealed his philosophy on driver feedback, declaring, “I would be destroyed if I had the drivers telling me that we are doing a good job.” He believes that the essence of a driver’s role is to identify areas for improvement relentlessly. “It’s what we are asking them to do,” he remarked, encouraging both Leclerc and Hamilton to push the team to its limits across every aspect of performance.

Vasseur’s approach could be a game-changer as Ferrari gears up for new regulations in the upcoming year. His insistence that both drivers must rally the team to enhance every facet—including simulator performance, setup, and aerodynamics—could set the stage for a resurgence. “This is the DNA of their job and the DNA of our sport,” he said, reinforcing that constructive criticism is vital for progress.

With the 2025 season behind them, all eyes will be on Ferrari as they seek redemption. Can Vasseur transform the Scuderia from a team in turmoil to a powerhouse that rivals McLaren once more? The stage is set, and the drivers are ready for a fight. The question remains: will the legendary team rise from the ashes, reinvigorated by the fiery passion of its drivers? Only time will tell!
