Ferrari’s Struggles Exposed: SF-25 Limitation Hinders Progress

In a shocking revelation, Ferrari’s team principal, Fred Vasseur, has brought to light a critical limitation hindering the SF-25’s performance and preventing the team from taking a significant step forward in Formula 1. The Maranello-based squad faced yet another disappointing race in Miami, with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finishing in seventh and eighth place respectively.

The root of Ferrari’s woes seems to lie in their single-lap pace on new tires, an aspect that Vasseur highlighted as crucial for the team to address with their 2025 car if they intend to make any advancements. The team’s struggles in qualifying, with Leclerc starting in eighth and Hamilton being eliminated in Q2, have been attributed to a shift towards prioritizing long-run performance over one-lap speed since 2024.

Vasseur admitted that Ferrari’s inability to extract the full potential of new tires during qualifying significantly impacted their performance in Miami. The team’s low starting positions proved to be a major obstacle in their pursuit of valuable points, with Vasseur acknowledging that improvements in this area are imperative for Ferrari to compete at the highest level.

The Frenchman expressed his frustration at the team’s inability to decode the reasons behind their difficulties in optimizing the performance of new tires, particularly in Miami. Vasseur emphasized the narrow margin for error in managing tire performance, which varies across different tracks and compounds, making it a challenging aspect to master.

Despite showing signs of progress in recent events, Ferrari’s struggles in Miami underscored a weakness in the SF-25, particularly in generating good mechanical grip at slow speeds. Vasseur remains hopeful that the team can close the gap to their competitors, but he acknowledged the track-dependent nature of their performance, with certain circuits favoring other teams’ approaches.

As Ferrari grapples with these challenges, the pressure is mounting for the iconic team to find solutions and regain their competitive edge in the fiercely contested world of Formula 1. The road ahead promises to be arduous, but with Vasseur at the helm, Ferrari is determined to overcome their limitations and return to the pinnacle of motorsport glory.
