Ferrari at a Crossroads: Controversy Surrounds Decision on Bahrain Grand Prix Floor Upgrade

Reports from the heart of Italian media have sent shockwaves through the Formula 1 world as Ferrari is said to be in turmoil over a crucial upgrade to their SF-25 car’s floor ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix. Speculation is rife that a new floor is ready to be fitted onto the Ferrari challenger, but whispers of dissent within the team have cast a shadow over this decision.

The debate within Ferrari’s ranks revolves around whether the timing is right to introduce this upgraded floor, with conflicting opinions threatening to derail the team’s efforts to improve their performance on the track. The final verdict on whether to unleash this new SF-25 floor in Bahrain is set to be announced on Thursday, adding an air of suspense to the upcoming race weekend.

Amidst a challenging start to the F1 2025 campaign, Ferrari is under immense pressure to turn their fortunes around after lackluster performances in previous races. The Italian publication Formula Uno highlighted issues of ‘balance and pure performance’ with the SF-25, prompting the development of a new floor aimed at enhancing stability and balance while expanding the car’s operational window.

The proposed upgraded floor is designed to shift the car’s center of pressure forward, with a focus on improving cornering capabilities and addressing understeer concerns that have plagued the SF-25 in the early stages of the season. By generating more efficient downforce at current ride heights, Ferrari aims to avoid potential issues with skid block wear while maximizing performance on the track.

However, conflicting reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport suggest that not all key figures within Ferrari are in agreement regarding the Bahrain floor upgrade. While the aerodynamics department is reportedly in favor of introducing the new floor for the upcoming race, team principal Fred Vasseur and technical director Loic Serra are hesitant to greenlight the change. They argue that stabilizing the SF-25’s balance should take precedence before implementing significant aerodynamic modifications.

With a decision looming on the horizon, Ferrari is gearing up for a crucial moment in their F1 season, where the choice to either stick with the current setup or take a gamble on the new floor could have far-reaching consequences. As the team prepares to hit the track for practice sessions in Bahrain, all eyes will be on the SF-25’s performance, setting the stage for a potential showdown between old and new configurations.

In the midst of this uncertainty, reigning champion Lewis Hamilton’s cryptic comments post-race have added fuel to the fire, hinting at potential struggles with an “underperforming” element of his own SF-25. The Mercedes driver’s remarks have only intensified the speculation surrounding Ferrari’s upgrade plans and the impact they could have on the competitive landscape of the upcoming races.

As the Bahrain Grand Prix draws near, the tension within Ferrari continues to mount, with the team’s decision on the floor upgrade poised to shape their trajectory in the F1 2025 season. Will this bold move pay off and propel Ferrari back to the front of the grid, or will internal discord derail their ambitions on the track? The answers lie just around the corner as the countdown to race day begins.
