Ferrari’s 2025 F1 Strategy: Charles Leclerc Reveals Incremental Improvements Approach

Charles Leclerc has recently shed light on Ferrari’s strategy for their 2025 Formula 1 vehicle, indicating that the focus is on making incremental advancements in all aspects rather than concentrating on a single element. The revelation comes after Ferrari’s successful 2024 season, led by Fred Vasseur, where they secured five victories and finished second in the championship standings.

Despite making a significant leap with their revised SF-24 model, which outperformed in race conditions and addressed the wind sensitivity issues of its predecessor, the Italian team’s championship drought continued as they fell short of the Constructors’ title to McLaren by a mere 14 points.

In the face of the current rules that encourage teams to pursue marginal improvements, Ferrari has chosen to adopt a bold approach, implementing extensive modifications to the SF-25 to broaden the possibilities for further development.

Leclerc, however, emphasized that the team’s focus this time is not on rectifying a particular weakness, but rather on enhancing performance holistically. Reflecting on the end of 2023, he explained how certain characteristics of the car were identified as problematic and subsequently modified.

In contrast, 2024 presented a different scenario as the car was generally sound. The issues that arose during the mid-season upgrade were addressed, and the team has since been driving a high-performing car. The goal for the new model, according to Leclerc, is to make gradual improvements in every aspect rather than focusing on a specific area.

Leclerc, along with his new teammate Lewis Hamilton, got their first chance to test the SF-25 at Ferrari’s Fiorano test track. Despite the absence of any unanticipated issues, Leclerc cautioned that the conditions were not representative and the cold weather meant that no comprehensive evaluations could be conducted.

He remarked that the main objective of the preliminary test run was to observe initial metrics and identify any salient issues. He remained sanguine, noting that no problems had emerged thus far, marking a promising beginning. However, he was reserved in his assessment, stating that it was too early to make any definitive conclusions.

It’s clear that Ferrari, with Leclerc in the driver’s seat, is all set for the 2025 F1 season. Their approach to making consistent improvements in all areas of performance, while not focusing on a specific weakness, could be the key to ending their championship drought. Only time will tell if this strategy will lead Ferrari to claim the coveted Constructors’ title.
