Lewis Hamilton, now officially a Scuderia Ferrari driver, celebrated a landmark birthday as he turned 40. The Maranello-based team, in the midst of preparations for his debut season with the iconic red outfit, took a moment to celebrate its star signing. In true Ferrari fashion, the team combined tradition with warmth to mark the special occasion.

A Cake Fit for a Champion

Ferrari’s Instagram post featured a vibrant red cake, adorned with cherries and chocolates and topped with a single candle, symbolizing Hamilton’s first year with the team. The message on the cake, written in Italian, further emphasized the Scuderia’s heritage while warmly welcoming the seven-time world champion to its fold.

The caption read simply, “Auguri Lewis,” which translates to “Best wishes, Lewis.” The post highlighted the excitement and optimism surrounding Hamilton’s arrival, a move that has already generated waves of anticipation for the 2025 season.

Criticism of Timing Dismissed as ‘Nonsense’

As with any major career move, Hamilton’s decision to join Ferrari hasn’t escaped scrutiny. Some critics questioned whether the timing of his switch was appropriate given his age and the challenges of transitioning to a new team. However, renowned F1 journalist David Hunt fiercely defended the move.

“Too old? Nonsense,” Hunt argued. “Now is the perfect time for Hamilton to join Ferrari. The odds are stacked against Hamilton – but he would not want it any other way.”

Hunt also emphasized that the decision to leave Mercedes was Hamilton’s alone, noting that the Briton was seeking a fresh challenge after a long and successful tenure with the German team.

“It was Hamilton’s decision to cut short his contract with Mercedes and seek a new challenge with Ferrari, not the other way around. Things had gone stale at Mercedes, it was time to move on to a new challenge.”

Ferrari’s Renewed Focus

Ferrari enters the 2025 season with momentum after a strong 2024 campaign. The team has implemented significant updates to its Project 677 chassis, along with an “elastic” testing schedule to accommodate optimal conditions at Fiorano. With Hamilton joining forces with Charles Leclerc, Ferrari boasts one of the most formidable driver lineups on the grid.

The Briton’s move to Ferrari has already been dubbed a “bold chapter” in his illustrious career, and the team is determined to provide the tools he needs to contend for his record-breaking eighth world title.

What’s Next for Hamilton and Ferrari?

As Hamilton celebrates his milestone birthday, the excitement among fans is palpable. His arrival at Ferrari signals not just a personal challenge but also an opportunity for the Scuderia to reclaim its place at the pinnacle of Formula 1.

With pre-season testing just weeks away, all eyes are on Maranello. Can Hamilton write a new chapter of success in Ferrari’s storied history? The 2025 season promises to be a thrilling ride. Welcome to the red side, Lewis.
