Ferrari Urged to Axe Lewis Hamilton: Is This the End of an F1 Era?

Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time world champion, is facing harsh criticism and intense pressure to consider an immediate exit from Ferrari. Former F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone has delivered a damning verdict on Hamilton’s performance, suggesting that the superstar driver should step away from the sport at the end of the current season.

Hamilton’s dismal showing at the Hungarian Grand Prix, where he qualified in 12th place and openly criticized himself, has raised concerns about his future at Ferrari. Despite securing a sprint race victory earlier in the year, Hamilton has struggled to make a significant impact, with his best grand prix result in 2025 being fourth place. In contrast, his teammate Charles Leclerc has clinched five podium finishes and a pole position.

Amidst growing speculation about Hamilton’s form and mindset, Ecclestone has joined other F1 figures in questioning whether the British driver should retire before his contract expires. The 40-year-old racing icon has been advised to seek new challenges outside of Formula 1 to avoid a further decline in his performance.

Hamilton’s difficulties in the 2025 season extend beyond his on-track results, as he has been consistently outperformed by Leclerc in qualifying sessions. With the Monegasque driver holding a significant lead over Hamilton in the championship standings, the pressure on the former Mercedes driver continues to mount.

As discussions about Hamilton’s future intensify, the upcoming regulatory changes in 2026 offer a glimmer of hope for the struggling Ferrari driver. These changes could potentially level the playing field and provide Hamilton with a better opportunity to showcase his skills and competitiveness.

The uncertainty surrounding Hamilton’s career trajectory, coupled with his recent struggles on the track, has ignited a wave of speculation and concern among fans and experts alike. The future of the legendary driver hangs in the balance as he navigates one of the most challenging phases of his illustrious racing career.
