The CEO of FIA Formula E, Jeff Dodds, hinted at the possibility of discussions with Ferrari about the potential entry of the renowned Italian team into the championship at a later date.
With the imminent launch of their electrification facility next month, Ferrari is advancing in the development of an electric road vehicle. When asked about any conversation with Ferrari regarding their involvement in Formula E, Dodds responded with an intriguing “Maybe,” suggesting that the participation of the prancing horse would bring prestige to the championship.
However, Ferrari somewhat tempered the excitement by stating that their current focus is on Formula 1 and endurance racing. They recently announced a venture into uncharted waters with a sail project. This indicates that their immediate attention is not on Formula E.
The possibility of Ferrari joining Formula E depends on the timing of potential discussions. With the deadline for manufacturers to confirm entry into the GEN4 era approaching, it seems unlikely that a Ferrari team will be seen on the Formula E grid in the near future, especially considering that their electric plant has not yet been inaugurated. However, considering McLaren’s imminent entry in 2022 and the growing popularity of the series, even within the Formula 1 community, it would be unwise for Ferrari to completely dismiss the possibility of future involvement.
