Red Bull has dominated the Formula 1 grid with its aerodynamically efficient designs for some time. Despite recent trends portraying Ferrari as an inferior car among its rivals, the Austrian giant has been dominating the Formula 1 scene since the introduction of the ground effect era. Subsequently, in an attempt to match the reigning champions, Ferrari is reported to be copying Red Bull’s pull-road suspension design as their arrival in Maranello draws closer.
Ferrari started the 2024 season with moderate expectations of winning only two or three races in the entire season, as Red Bull seemed poised to dominate Formula 1 once again. However, things have changed considerably since then, as the prancing horses have already secured two victories. Now, in an attempt to close the gap with the Austrian team, the Ferrari squad seems ready to take drastic measures for the next season.
According to Motorsport, the Italian powerhouse is set to abandon its push-rod suspension and copy Red Bull’s suspension setup to achieve exceptional performance. Furthermore, the timing of this decision aligns with Lewis Hamilton’s arrival at Ferrari. Therefore, it is understood that such measures are being taken to provide the British driver with a machine capable of fighting for world championships. Additionally, to bring glory back to Maranello after over 16 years of drought.
Although Ferrari is willing to do whatever it takes to win the 2025 season, the team is also focused on the new engine and aerodynamic regulations for 2026. They do not want to repeat the regulatory changes of 2014, when the team was caught off guard. The team boss revealed how much work has already been done under the 2026 regulatory framework.
The Frenchman stated that they have already begun working on the 2025 challenger. On the other hand, work is well underway on developing the power unit for 2026. However, to their disappointment, the team cannot start work on the aerodynamic aspect, as teams are not allowed to work on the chassis before the start of the 2025 season.
Despite the Italian giant working day and night to create a competitive engine for the ’26 regulations, there is uncertainty about which Formula 1 engine manufacturer will have the advantage. Therefore, the 2026 regulations may level the playing field and an intense battle for the championship could occur.
