Ferrari’s Thrilling Departure: Zhou Guanyu Exits as Reserve Driver Ahead of 2026 F1 Season!

In a shocking twist that has sent ripples through the Formula 1 world, Ferrari has officially severed ties with its reserve driver Zhou Guanyu, just as the highly-anticipated 2026 season looms on the horizon. The 26-year-old Chinese driver, who joined the Maranello powerhouse in 2025 alongside Antonio Giovinazzi, has bid adieu to the team after a brief yet impactful stint.

Zhou’s journey has not been without its challenges. Following his departure from Sauber at the end of 2024, he was optimistic that his role as a reserve driver at Ferrari would pave the way for a return to the grid in 2026. His sights were firmly set on the newly formed Cadillac F1 team, aiming to secure a coveted race seat as the championship welcomes its 11th team.

In a heartfelt farewell, Ferrari expressed their gratitude for Zhou’s dedication, stating, “Grateful for Zhou Guanyu’s commitment and contribution as Ferrari Reserve Driver this season! Wishing him all the best ahead.” This acknowledgment highlights the significance of Zhou’s role within the team, even if it was not as a full-time racer.

The driver himself conveyed his passion and determination at the start of the 2025 season, declaring, “I do have the hunger to step back in a race seat, a full-time F1 drive. In terms of the long-term goal, this is very clear and very straightforward. I’m sure everybody knows that.” Zhou emphasized the importance of his responsibilities, stating, “You’re there trying to win races, you’re still making your impact… everything really matters here.”

Despite his unwavering commitment, Zhou faced fierce competition for a seat at Cadillac, which ultimately opted to sign former Red Bull star Sergio Perez and his ex-Sauber teammate Valtteri Bottas, leaving Zhou once again facing an uncertain future without a contract for the upcoming season.

As the dust settles on this dramatic development, Zhou Guanyu has yet to reveal his next career move, raising questions about where the talented driver will land next. Will he find a new team to showcase his skills, or will he take a step back and reassess his options in the cutthroat world of Formula 1?

Fans and analysts alike are left on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting Zhou’s next chapter in this high-octane sport. One thing is for certain: the racing community will be watching closely as this determined driver fights for a second chance on the F1 stage!
