Ferrari Fires Up Title Talk: Sainz and Leclerc Eye Constructors’ Championship After Breakthrough Wins

Ferrari is feeling the thrill of a renewed championship chase, and Carlos Sainz has just confirmed it: the team has its sights set on the 2024 Constructors’ title. With recent back-to-back wins, Ferrari has leapfrogged Red Bull to take second place in the standings, now trailing McLaren by just 29 points with four rounds remaining. The momentum has both Sainz and teammate Charles Leclerc fired up, pushing each other harder as they aim to bring the iconic Italian team back to Formula 1’s pinnacle.

Sainz, who dominated from pole to win the Mexico City Grand Prix, admitted that Ferrari’s recent surge has sparked championship talks between him and Leclerc. “We both believe it is possible,” Sainz said confidently. “We pump each other up, knowing there’s a chance…we’re both in a good moment in our driving.” The camaraderie between the two drivers and their collective drive for consistency has been vital for Ferrari’s late-season surge, as they’ve delivered double podium finishes in consecutive races for the first time this season.

Ferrari’s resurgence hasn’t come without hurdles. On a chaotic, unpredictable Mexico track, Sainz emphasized how crucial it was to stay steady and avoid mistakes. “Q1 and Q2 were a bit of chaos, and anything could go right or wrong,” he explained. But their focus paid off, with Ferrari executing a near-flawless race strategy and both drivers delivering top results.

The key to their title hopes? Consistency and pressure. As Sainz pointed out, “We just need to keep ourselves in that fight… it’s not like it depends only on us. Given how fast McLaren is, we depend a bit on them.” While McLaren remains a serious threat, Sainz and Leclerc are determined to keep Ferrari in striking distance.

Leclerc, currently third in the Drivers’ Championship, shares Sainz’s outlook. While he holds an outside shot at the Drivers’ title, he’s pragmatic about where Ferrari’s real potential lies this season. “The Constructors’ now is realistically possible,” Leclerc acknowledged. “It relies on us doing well more than others doing something wrong.” Leclerc, who will partner with Lewis Hamilton in 2025, is clearly focused on the immediate prize, reinforcing that his goal is to “maximize the package” of the Ferrari car each race weekend.

With McLaren’s Lando Norris in relentless form and Verstappen still the driver to beat, Ferrari faces a tall order. But with their recent successes and the combined focus of two talented drivers, the Prancing Horse is charging forward with renewed purpose. Can Ferrari pull off the ultimate comeback to clinch the Constructors’ title? It’s a dream that’s no longer so far-fetched, and as Sainz and Leclerc continue their push, Ferrari fans around the world are daring to believe.
