Ferrari F1 Team Principal Facing Imminent Replacement Amidst Turmoil

In a shocking turn of events, Antonello Coletta, the head of Ferrari’s World Endurance Championship operation, has emerged as a top contender to replace Fred Vasseur as the team principal of the Ferrari F1 team. This news comes on the heels of reports that Ferrari had approached Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull, in a failed attempt to lure him to Ferrari.

Fred Vasseur took the reins at Ferrari in December 2022 after the departure of Mattia Binotto. Under his leadership, Ferrari showed promise with a strong 2024 season, but the current F1 season has been tumultuous for the team. Following the recent Canadian Grand Prix, Ferrari finds itself a staggering 191 points behind McLaren.

The team’s decision to bring in Lewis Hamilton as Carlos Sainz’s replacement has not yielded the expected results, with Hamilton yet to secure a podium finish in his first 10 races with Ferrari. Additionally, Ferrari’s risky move to introduce new design concepts with the SF-25 car has not paid off as anticipated.

Rumors of Vasseur’s potential replacement have been circulating, with Coletta being touted as a frontrunner for the position. Coletta’s success in leading Ferrari to victories in endurance racing has garnered him praise and positioned him as a strong candidate for the top F1 job at Ferrari.

Speculation suggests that Lorenzo Giorgetti, Ferrari’s chief racing revenue officer, could also play a significant role within the F1 team alongside Coletta, potentially adopting a dual-leadership structure similar to McLaren’s. Reports indicate that Coletta had previously turned down an offer to become Ferrari’s F1 team principal, but the current circumstances may lead to a different outcome this time around.

Despite the swirling rumors and uncertainties, Christian Horner’s commitment to Red Bull remains unwavering. In an exclusive interview, Horner expressed his dedication to Red Bull and emphasized his excitement about the team’s future endeavors.

As the speculation and tension continue to mount at Ferrari, Vasseur addressed the situation during a press conference, condemning the disrespectful nature of the media reports surrounding his future. The ongoing turmoil within Ferrari’s leadership raises questions about the team’s stability and future direction in the competitive world of Formula 1.
