Ferrari Eyes Zhou Guanyu as Reserve Driver for 2025: A Strategic Move for F1’s Iconic Team

As Scuderia Ferrari gears up for a transformative 2025 Formula 1 season, reports suggest that the team is targeting Zhou Guanyu for a reserve driver role. According to Canal Formule, Zhou, who is set to leave Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber after two seasons, is on Ferrari’s radar for the critical backup position.

This potential move aligns with Ferrari’s broader strategy of bolstering its driver lineup, particularly with the arrival of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who will partner Charles Leclerc starting in 2025.

“Zhou’s Struggles and New Opportunity”

Zhou Guanyu’s time at Sauber has been less than stellar, yielding only 12 points during his tenure. While Zhou hopes to retain a starting seat on the grid, Ferrari’s reserve driver role may be his most viable option for the coming season.

As Ferrari sharpens its competitive edge, Zhou could offer valuable insights and support, especially given his experience in the midfield. While not a marquee addition, Zhou’s inclusion could prove strategic for the Maranello-based team as they navigate a pivotal season.

“Ferrari’s Big Moves: Hamilton Joins the Fold”

Ferrari’s pursuit of glory hinges on its star-studded driver pairing of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. Hamilton, who joins Ferrari on a blockbuster deal, aims to clinch a record-breaking eighth world championship, a feat that could end Ferrari’s title drought dating back to 2008.

Leclerc, meanwhile, has been the backbone of Ferrari’s 2024 campaign. With three wins and 11 podiums, the Monegasque driver has showcased consistency and skill. Heading into the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Leclerc remains optimistic about the team’s chances, despite concerns over cold temperatures affecting tire performance.

“I think on paper it’s a track where we should perform well,” Leclerc stated. “The improved tire management gives us a shot, though it will be challenging in the cold. Seeing how close everything is, I believe we’ll have a chance to win it.”

“The Constructors’ Battle Heats Up”

Ferrari currently sits second in the Constructors’ Championship, trailing McLaren by a narrow margin. With three races remaining, every point is critical as Ferrari fights to reclaim its status as the top team in F1.

The addition of Hamilton, along with a strong performance from Leclerc, positions Ferrari as a serious contender for the 2025 championship. Meanwhile, Zhou’s potential role as a reserve driver would strengthen the team’s bench and provide crucial support throughout the season.

“Why Zhou Guanyu Makes Sense for Ferrari”

While Zhou’s performance has been underwhelming at Sauber, his adaptability and technical feedback could make him a valuable asset for Ferrari. The reserve driver role could serve as a stepping stone for Zhou to prove his worth and potentially secure a more prominent position in the future.

Moreover, Ferrari’s interest in Zhou underscores the team’s commitment to forward-thinking talent development. If Zhou meets expectations, he could be part of Ferrari’s long-term plans, especially as the team continues to invest in youth and versatility.

“What’s Next for Ferrari and Zhou?”

As Ferrari prepares for a high-stakes 2025 season, the team’s focus is on assembling a lineup capable of dethroning McLaren and claiming the Constructors’ Championship. For Zhou, a reserve driver role at Ferrari could be the opportunity he needs to rebuild his reputation and remain in the F1 ecosystem.

With Hamilton and Leclerc leading the charge, Ferrari is set to make a serious play for championship glory. And if Zhou joins as the reserve driver, it will mark another calculated step in Ferrari’s quest to dominate the grid.
