In a thrilling qualifying session at Spa, Antonio Fuoco showcased his prowess behind the wheel of the #50 Ferrari, clinching pole position with an impressive lap time of 1:59.617. The Italian driver led a Ferrari 1-2-3, with his teammates Robert Kubica and Antonio Giovinazzi securing the second and third positions, respectively, ensuring a front-row lockout for Ferrari.
The initial 15-minute qualifying session was intense, with the top 10 spots hotly contested by three Ferraris, two Peugeots, both Cadillacs, both Alpines, and the #20 BMW driven by Robin Frijns. The Ferraris demonstrated exceptional speed throughout the session, with Fuoco consistently setting the pace. Although Jean-Eric Vergne of Peugeot initially challenged Fuoco’s dominance, the Italian driver ultimately widened the gap, outperforming his competitors by over three tenths of a second.
The battle for pole position saw Fuoco shine once again during Hyperpole, where drivers struggled to get their tires up to temperature due to the high track temperatures at Spa. Kubica and Frijns set competitive lap times, but it was Fuoco who stole the show with a blistering 1:59.617, securing pole position for the race. Giovinazzi followed closely behind in third place, nearly six tenths of a second adrift from Fuoco’s pace.
The Ferrari 1-2-3 dominance left Stoffel Vandoorne in the #94 Peugeot 9X8 trailing in third place, with Alex Lynn in the #38 Cadillac V-Series.R and Mick Schumacher in the #36 Alpine rounding out the top five and six, respectively. Jean-Eric Vergne in the sister Peugeot claimed the seventh spot, while Robin Frijns in the #20 BMW, Charles Milesi in the #35 Alpine, and Earl Bamber in the #38 Cadillac completed the top 10 grid positions.
The fierce competition and outstanding performances at Spa have set the stage for an electrifying 6-hour race, where drivers will push their limits to claim victory on the iconic circuit. Antonio Fuoco’s stellar performance has positioned him as the favorite to lead Ferrari to success, but with strong contenders in the mix, the race promises to be a spectacle of speed, skill, and strategy.
