Ferrari presented this Friday the new 12 Cylinder grand tourer, the successor to the 812 Superfast, which comes in Coupe and Spider formats.
The new model, which was unveiled at a private event in Miami, USA, features a naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine with 830 hp of power and 678 Nm of maximum torque. However, the big news of the new engine, which Ferrari has refined, is a “red line” at 9500 rpm.
Ferrari engineers equipped the revamped V12 with titanium connecting rods, which are 40% lighter than steel ones, as well as aluminum pistons and calibrated the crankshaft using lighter materials.
Furthermore, the steel camshaft, similar to those used in F1, is now coated in carbon-diamond, which according to Ferrari allows for a reduction in friction coefficient and an improvement in the mechanical efficiency of the engine.
The engine block is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, which helps the 12Cilindri in the Coupé version accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 340 km/h.
The Spider version, convertible, is slightly slower and therefore accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.95 seconds. In terms of weight, the Coupé version weighs 1560 kg and the Spider 1620 kg.
The Maranello brand announced that they equipped the new model with a “brake-by-wire” braking system as standard, similar to the one used in the SF90 Stradale and 296. In addition, the Slide Slip Control has been improved to allow the driver to control the sliding angle in curves, as Ferrari states that the system estimates road grip in real time.
The new 12Cilindri is also equipped with a four-wheel steering system, similar to the one used in the 812 Competizione.
Esthetically, the new Ferrari GT features a distinct design from the brand’s new models, with the Italian manufacturer making it clear that the new model presents a more “sophisticated” design language than its predecessor, highlighting a front section where the sharp daytime running lights stand out and a glossy black element between the lights.
The rear is marked by active aerodynamic elements that operate between 60 and 300 km/h to reduce “downforce”. In addition, the design of the lower body area was designed to efficiently maximize vertical load, and for this purpose, small grilles were installed behind the front wheels to reduce overpressure in the engine compartment.
Similar to the 812 Superfast, the new 12Cilindri is also equipped with three pairs of vortex generators placed under the front section.
Inside, there are three large screens: a 10.25” instrument panel, a 15.6” central infotainment screen, and an 8.8” screen for the passenger.
It should be noted that Ferrari did not give up on equipping the new model with the controversial capacitive buttons of the 296, with the buttons on the 12Cilindri having cutouts. Also noteworthy is the Burmester audio system that features 15 speakers in the new Ferrari model.
