Fernando Alonso Unleashes Scathing Critique of Aston Martin After Disastrous Singapore Qualifying

In a shocking display of candidness, Fernando Alonso has laid bare the struggles of the Aston Martin team following a lackluster qualifying session for the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix. The Spanish driver, who will kick off the race from a disappointing P10 on the grueling Marina Bay Street Circuit, revealed that the team’s last-minute adjustments to the car backfired, leaving him in a state of disillusionment regarding their prospects for the race.

Alonso did not pull any punches in his assessment, stating, “Yes, FP3 was concerning and also Q1 we were 14th and 16th I think, so definitely not the places we want to be.” Despite clawing their way back into the top 10 during Q2 and Q3, Alonso expressed skepticism about their ability to compete effectively, stating, “It’s not the best starting position. Tomorrow on the wrong side of the grid as well, so it’s going to be tough to score points.”

The session, which concluded under the dazzling lights of the Singapore night, showcased the fierce competition that defines Formula 1. When probed about the reasons behind the team’s subpar performance, Alonso was brutally honest. “Yes, we changed things. I think on the set-up we made the car slower, it happens sometimes. And the others, they make the car faster, so the combination is just a few positions away,” he lamented.

The 43-year-old veteran further elaborated on the complexity of starting from P10, suggesting that it could actually hinder their chances more than help. “When you start P10, actually, you probably prefer to start P11. That guarantees you maybe points for tomorrow,” he noted, revealing the strategic complications that come with the grid position.

Despite the palpable disappointment, Alonso refrained from attributing the struggles to mere bad luck or adverse track conditions. Instead, he implied a deeper issue within the team’s performance capabilities. “I think it’s going to be difficult, but we are not fast enough to win the points,” he stated bluntly. He singled out the formidable competition, admitting that teams like AlphaTauri and Haas are currently operating well ahead of Aston Martin’s capabilities.

Alonso’s piercing words signal a growing frustration within the team as they grapple with consistency issues in the latter half of the 2025 Formula 1 season. “We put a lap together today, but if you put the two cars together, I think we are maybe the eighth-fastest team or something like that. If we score points, it’s welcome, but maybe we don’t deserve it,” he concluded.

As the Formula 1 world turns its eyes to the Marina Bay Street Circuit, the stakes have never been higher for Alonso and Aston Martin. With mounting pressure to perform, fans and critics alike will be watching closely to see if they can turn their fortunes around in the race ahead.
