Fernando Alonso’s Frustration Boils Over: “I Want Points, Not Just Performances!”

In a shocking turn of events during the Italian Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso faced a devastating setback that left him seething with frustration. The seasoned driver, who has garnered a reputation for his tenacity and skill, saw his hopes for a points finish dashed by an unexpected suspension failure just after his pit-stop. What should have been a triumphant day for Alonso quickly spiraled into disappointment, fueling a passionate outcry for change from the driver himself.

Alonso’s retirement from the race marks a significant moment, as it ended a promising run where he was poised to secure a vital position ahead of rival Gabriel Bortoleto, who ultimately finished eighth. This unfortunate incident was particularly painful, as it was his first DNF (Did Not Finish) since the Monaco Grand Prix, where he was also in a strong position at sixth place. The loss of what could have been at least 12 crucial points has left Alonso reflecting on his recent misfortunes and urging his Aston Martin team to recalibrate their focus.

“I want points, not just performances,” Alonso declared emphatically, making it clear that while he appreciates the team’s efforts, results matter most at this stage of the season. He lamented the string of bad luck that has plagued his campaign, especially during races where he was in contention for valuable points. “We were using the kerb every lap, and only on our car, we had the suspension problem,” he recounted, highlighting the cruel irony of his situation.

With Racing Bulls breathing down Aston Martin’s neck and just one point separating them in the standings, Alonso’s frustrations could not have come at a more critical time. He pointed out that throughout the season, he has faced obstacles at the worst possible moments. “In Monaco, I was P6 and retired with an engine problem, and at Monza, I was P7 and retired with a suspension issue. There are dozens of points where the luck was not with us,” he stated, echoing the sentiments of many fans who feel that fate has not been kind to the driver this season.

The seasoned veteran expressed his exasperation, indicating he should have racked up an additional 20-30 points if not for the series of unfortunate events. He added, “It is frustrating that I should have these points, but it is the way it is. Unfortunately, I am getting used to it.” Alonso’s comments resonate with a deep-seated desire for tangible results rather than mere accolades for performance that don’t translate to points in the championship race.

As the 2026 project looms on the horizon, Alonso’s unwavering commitment to excellence is evident, but so is his impatience with the current situation. “Every weekend it’s frustrating to try and do well, but luck is not on our side,” he lamented, a sentiment that perfectly encapsulates the struggles of a driver who is all too familiar with the highs and lows of Formula 1.

The racing world will be watching closely as Alonso navigates the tumultuous waters ahead, with hopes that Lady Luck will finally smile upon him and his team in the upcoming races. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see if Aston Martin can turn the tide in their favor and help Alonso reclaim his rightful place among the elite in the world of motorsport.
