Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso Fires Back at Critics: “F1 Has Always Been Like That”

Formula 1’s Fernando Alonso from Aston Martin is not holding back in response to the recent criticism surrounding the lack of excitement in F1 races. After the “boring” Suzuka race, where media and fans alike were left wanting more action, Alonso is here to set the record straight.

The Suzuka race in Japan was underwhelming, with little overtaking and minimal strategic opportunities due to the track layout and lack of tire degradation. Despite the lackluster performance, Alonso believes the uproar about F1’s current state is exaggerated. He points out that the cars in 2022 are still a far cry from the challenging 2021 generation, which he deemed the worst in terms of dirty air.

“Formula 1 has always been like that,” says the two-time world champion, defending the sport’s history of varying levels of excitement. Alonso even reminisces about races from the ’80s with only one pit stop, highlighting the beauty in simplicity and unpredictability.

Alonso also addresses the media frenzy surrounding F1, suggesting that less media coverage might be the solution to the perceived issues. He points out the numerous press conferences, fan forums, and social media engagements that contribute to the constant scrutiny and analysis of the sport.

Despite the critiques and calls for more overtaking and excitement, Alonso remains steadfast in his support for Formula 1, urging fans to embrace the sport for what it is. While other racing categories may offer more wheel-to-wheel action, Alonso believes that F1’s history and prestige set it apart.

In a sport where every move and statement is scrutinized, Alonso’s candid remarks offer a refreshing perspective on the current state of Formula 1. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on the drivers and teams to see if any changes will be made to enhance the racing spectacle.
