Fernando Alonso praises Lando Norris’ historic F1 title: a thrilling battle for supremacy

Fernando Alonso Cheers on Lando Norris: “I’m Thrilled for Him!”

In a heartfelt display of sportsmanship, Formula 1 veteran Fernando Alonso has publicly congratulated Lando Norris on clinching his first-ever World Championship title. The Spaniard, currently positioned 10th in the overall standings, acknowledged the remarkable achievement of the young British driver and praised the intense competition among the leading contenders throughout the season.

Speaking to the press, Alonso reflected on his own journey as a seasoned driver, emphasizing the significance of Norris’s accomplishment while drawing from their shared experiences at McLaren and the grueling 24 Hours of Daytona. “I’m genuinely thrilled for Lando,” Alonso stated, highlighting how Norris, along with fellow competitors Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri, has proven worthy of the title. “All three deserved the championship; they delivered a phenomenal season. Piastri was incredibly solid, Verstappen is undoubtedly the best in the field, and Lando was flawless under pressure, especially this weekend.”

While Alonso offered praise for his younger counterparts, he also took a moment to assess his own performance, which has been far from stellar this season. Finishing the World Championship in a lackluster 10th place with only 16 points accumulated in the last two races, Alonso admitted his results fell drastically short of his expectations. “Finishing 10th in the World Championship is dreadful for me. It’s one of the lowest points of my career,” he confessed.

Despite the disappointing outcome, Alonso remains steadfast in his commitment to delivering strong performances. He noted the challenges he faced, including mechanical failures and setbacks that hindered his ability to secure better results. “All I can do is finish ahead of my teammate. We’re 20 drivers out there, and that’s the only way to measure performance,” he explained. “I have no doubts about my fitness or competitiveness. Anyone who questions that clearly hasn’t witnessed my career over the last 24 years. I get into a car every week and rarely encounter issues.”

As Alonso continues to compete at the highest level, his reflections serve as a reminder of the relentless pursuit of excellence in Formula 1. With Norris now firmly established as a champion, the racing world eagerly anticipates how both drivers will shape the future of this exhilarating sport.
