Fernando Alonso, the two-time F1 champion, has just secured a surprising new role that is causing shockwaves in the motorsport world. As the Spanish Grand Prix looms closer, Alonso has been appointed as the ambassador to Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, adding a new layer of excitement to the upcoming race weekend.

The announcement comes amidst uncertainty surrounding the future of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, with the introduction of a new street circuit in Madrid set to host the Spanish GP from 2026 onwards. Despite this, Barcelona’s contract extension until the end of 2026 hints at a potential continued presence on the F1 calendar.

Fernando Alonso’s endorsement of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya could prove crucial in solidifying its place in the F1 lineup for the coming years. With his high-profile status and immense popularity in the racing world, Alonso’s involvement may sway the decision-makers in favor of retaining the iconic Barcelona track.

The F1 CEO, Stefano Domenicali, has hinted at the possibility of both Madrid and Barcelona hosting races simultaneously, drawing parallels to the setup in Italy with Monza and Imola. This dual-race scenario could offer fans a thrilling spectacle and further cement Spain’s status as a cornerstone of the Formula 1 season.

While the official confirmation of Barcelona’s inclusion in the 2026 F1 calendar is still pending, the strategic move of appointing Fernando Alonso as the ambassador signifies a bold statement of intent. The stakes are high, and the racing world is eagerly anticipating how this narrative will unfold in the seasons to come.
