Fernando Alonso Hails Max Verstappen’s 2024 F1 Triumph as “Incredible”

Max Verstappen’s fourth consecutive Formula 1 World Championship has drawn widespread admiration, including high praise from two-time world champion Fernando Alonso. The Dutchman clinched the 2024 title at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, and Alonso wasted no time commending Verstappen for what he considers the Red Bull driver’s most impressive season yet.

“This One Must Feel Special”

Alonso, who has raced against the best of F1 across multiple generations, highlighted the unique challenges Verstappen faced in 2024. Unlike his previous campaigns, where Red Bull’s dominance was often unmatched, this season required Verstappen to dig deeper.

“Big congratulations. This one has to feel very special to him, I imagine, because the car is not maybe as dominant as last year,” Alonso stated.

The Spanish driver acknowledged that Verstappen’s ability to adapt and excel without having the fastest car under him made this championship stand out among the four.

“This Is All Down to Him”

In a rare show of peer-to-peer appreciation, Alonso credited Verstappen alone for his success this season, declaring the 27-year-old as the outright best driver of the year.

“This is all down to him, I think, this year, and he was the best,” Alonso emphasized. “Always things to learn from a driver like him in this kind of performances this year.”

Alonso’s words underscore the respect Verstappen commands even among F1 legends, as the Spaniard praised his rival for delivering outstanding results under challenging circumstances.

Brazil Stands Out as Verstappen’s Finest Moment

Reflecting on Verstappen’s season, Alonso singled out the Brazilian Grand Prix as a testament to his incredible ability. Starting from a difficult grid position, Verstappen drove a flawless race to claim a stunning victory at Interlagos, a race Alonso believes encapsulated his brilliance.

“I think he did an incredible performance this year to put the car in a position that it was not maybe realistic. The best example is Brazil one weekend.”

A Mutual Respect Between Champions

Alonso’s admiration for Verstappen reflects the camaraderie between two of Formula 1’s most talented drivers. While Verstappen has risen to dominate the current era, Alonso, at 43, continues to inspire with his relentless pursuit of excellence at Aston Martin.

Both drivers now shift focus to the final two races of the season, with Verstappen looking to extend his legacy and Alonso striving to finish the year on a high note with Aston Martin. Fans of the sport will relish the opportunity to see these two champions continue to shine.
