Fernando Alonso Aims for a Drama-Free Abu Dhabi Grand Prix: “I Don’t Want to Be in the News on Monday!”

In a thrilling turn of events at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso has secured a commendable sixth position on the grid, igniting excitement among fans and media alike. The seasoned racer, with a contagious smile, expressed his unexpected delight after a weekend filled with challenges. “Yeah, I’m very, very happy. A little bit unexpected, to be honest, P6,” Alonso declared, shedding light on the rollercoaster of emotions that come with high-stakes racing.

The Aston Martin driver faced a daunting start to the weekend, grappling with a car that struggled in the low-speed corners—a notorious weakness for him this season. “We came here not very confident about the performance in Abu Dhabi,” he admitted, reflecting on the hurdles that accompanied practice sessions. However, a daring overnight setup change transformed his fortunes. “We changed the set-up overnight. We’ve been brave with some of the experiments that we tried, and honestly, the car was more competitive than expected. So, I’m happy for the team,” he remarked, radiating optimism.

This bold gamble not only enhanced Alonso’s qualifying speed but also set the stage for a more manageable race day. “With yesterday’s car, we could not turn into the corners. So, now we can turn the corners. So, it will help not to crash,” he grinned, alluding to the critical importance of a well-handling car in the cutthroat world of F1 racing.

As the racing world fixates on the fierce competition between titans like Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, and Oscar Piastri, Alonso revealed he hadn’t yet pondered the strategic dynamics that could unfold. “I didn’t think about that!” he laughed. “Sometimes even if he slows down, it’s still not enough for us to catch him. So, he needs to slow down a lot.” Despite the rivalry, Alonso’s focus remains clear: securing valuable points in the Constructors’ Championship against rivals Haas and Sauber. “There is no other incentive for us tomorrow, and we will try to control that,” he stated resolutely.

Fans can expect a captivating show as Alonso intends to keep a watchful eye on the unfolding drama from various screens scattered throughout the circuit. “It’s a very easy circuit,” he noted, highlighting the numerous visual aids that will help him stay engaged during the race. “Tomorrow is going to be a fantastic show for us,” he predicted, brimming with anticipation.

As Alonso gears up for the race, his ultimate wish is to stay clear of chaos. “I hope to be as far as possible from the fight. Well, not too far because I want to win the points. But, yeah, not in the news on Monday,” he quipped, emphasizing his desire for a clean race and a calculated approach.

With Alonso poised to navigate the twists and turns of the Yas Marina Circuit, fans are left wondering: can the two-time world champion avoid the drama and seize the opportunity to score points? The answer awaits on race day, as all eyes turn to the iconic Abu Dhabi Grand Prix!
