A joint venture FAW-Volkswagen will launch two new energy vehicles by 2027, based on the new CMP7 platform. These new models will be developed in China and are intended solely for the Chinese market, with no plans for export.
FAW-Volkswagen has already announced that the new models arriving in two years will feature purely electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains. It is known that the new CMP platform will accelerate the development of new models by more than 30%, being intended for 100% electric and plug-in hybrid models. Furthermore, vehicles built on the CMP platform will adopt the CEA electronic and electrical architecture, exclusive to the Chinese market.
The news of the new FAW-Volkswagen models comes on the same day that the joint venture signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of the Tianjin Economic Development Zone in China to jointly promote a new energy vehicle industry in the region.
The FAW-Volkswagen factory in Tianjin has a production capacity of 300,000 units per year.
