Famin aims for Formula One advancement following a tumultuous 2023 for Alpine.

Bruno Famin, the current leader of the Formula 1 Alpine team, is determined to move the team forward after a challenging 2023 season. Famin believes that it is crucial for the team to make the most of their available resources.

Famin, who became the Team Principal of Alpine in the middle of last year as a temporary replacement for Otmar Szafnauer, acknowledges the instability that the team experienced at the management level. Former CEO Laurent Rossi was reassigned, and key figures Alan Permane and Pat Fry departed alongside Szafnauer. However, Famin aims to lead a more stable team in the upcoming 2024 season.

“The 2023 season was undoubtedly a tumultuous one for the team,” Famin stated during the launch of the A524. “However, it also served as a wake-up call for us to improve our overall team dynamics. We made changes to the way our trackside team operates, which immediately resulted in some tangible success.”

Famin’s goal now is to extend this positive momentum to the entire Alpine Racing organization. He plans to start the 2024 season with a strong focus on delivering high standards and maintaining operational excellence. The team has the necessary resources and has already begun modernizing certain areas of their facilities. Additionally, Alpine Racing boasts a wealth of talented individuals across their various sites, and Famin aims to fully utilize their skills and expertise.

Alpine’s F1 team will retain Famin as their steward for the upcoming season. Famin has emphasized that the current management structure, consisting of Technical Director Matt Harman, Viry Technical Director Eric Meignan, and Sporting Director Julian Rouse, will be fully utilized in 2024 to ensure success.

“We will build upon the foundation established in the 2023 season in terms of organization and overall team structure,” Famin stated.

“Our goal is to unleash the creativity and talent within our teams at both Enstone and Viry sites. We aim to enhance our execution speed and accuracy to improve efficiency and overall performance.”

Considered the fourth-place finisher in the Constructors’ standings in 2022, Alpine slipped to sixth place last season, scoring 53 fewer points (120) compared to their 2022 performance (173).

Rather than setting specific targets for 2024, Famin is focused on continuous improvement, acknowledging that the upcoming season will be a closely contested battle among multiple teams.

“Our aim is to continue developing the team and take it to the next level,” he affirmed.

“We recognize that progress is not always linear, which is why we will not set numerical targets. Our focus is on improving various aspects to enhance our competitiveness.”

Alpine’s driver pairing for 2024 remains unchanged from the previous season, with Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly donning the team’s colors.

Despite a rollercoaster season, both drivers achieved podium finishes, and Famin hopes they will continue to collaborate and contribute to the team’s progress.

“Esteban and Pierre are among the top drivers on the grid. We expect them to continue working closely with the team to improve the overall dynamics,” Famin emphasized.

“In 2023, each of them secured a podium finish, showcasing their talent and the team’s ability to perform strongly. This season is crucial, and we rely on both drivers to build on their previous achievements by delivering on the track and providing valuable input in the simulator to aid future car development.”
