Former Alpine chief, Otmar Szafnauer, is on a mission to shake up the world of Formula 1 by spearheading the entry of a 12th team into the prestigious racing competition.

Szafnauer, a seasoned figure in the F1 realm, is not one to shy away from ambition. During a recent event at the Miami Grand Prix, he revealed his strategic efforts to secure a spot for a new team in the upcoming round of applications, firmly believing there is room for expansion in the championship.

Drawing from the rich history of F1, Szafnauer highlighted that the sport has accommodated more than 10 teams in the past, emphasizing the potential for growth beyond the current 10-team structure that has been in place since 2017.

With the recent approval of the General Motors-backed Cadillac entry set to join the grid in 2026, the landscape of F1 is evolving, paving the way for Szafnauer to make his mark with a prospective 12th team. Eyeing the footsteps of successful team leaders like Toto Wolff, Szafnauer aims not only to establish a team but to cultivate a blend of technical excellence and commercial prowess.

As discussions loom around the future of F1 grid expansion, Szafnauer’s strategic preparations underscore his determination to position himself favorably when the opportunity arises. The potential for a 12th team, in his view, not only enhances competition on the track but also opens doors for talented individuals across various roles within the sport.

Amidst the anticipation surrounding the prospect of a new team entering the fray, Szafnauer’s calculated moves and industry insights position him at the forefront of what could be a monumental shift in the Formula 1 landscape.

Stay tuned as the F1 saga unfolds, with Szafnauer at the helm of a groundbreaking endeavor to bring a new player into the high-stakes world of motorsport.
