F1’s Eco-Revolution: Dramatic Shift to Net Zero Emissions by 2030 in European Circuit

The European leg of the F1 season is about to get a lot greener, with groundbreaking initiatives set to slash emissions and revolutionize the racing world. As the 2025 season unfolds, Formula 1 is making a bold statement by prioritizing sustainability, aiming to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.

In a groundbreaking move at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix 2025, a cutting-edge low-carbon energy system will be introduced throughout the paddock, slashing associated emissions by a staggering 90%. Developed in partnership with Aggreko, this innovative system will be powered by renewable sources such as hydrogen-treated vegetable oil (HVO), solar panels, and battery energy storage. By replacing individual generators, this system not only reduces emissions but also minimizes the environmental impact of transportation and logistics.

Supporting this eco-friendly endeavor, DHL is rolling out its fleet of 37 biofuel-powered trucks for goods delivery across Europe. Following a successful trial in 2023 that saw an 83% reduction in logistical emissions compared to traditional fuels, DHL is committed to driving sustainability in the racing industry.

Furthermore, the F2 and F3 series have embraced 100% sustainable advanced fuel developed by Aramco, a significant leap from the previous 55%. This marks a crucial step towards the F1’s adoption of the same fuel for its new hybrid engines starting in 2026. Designed as a drop-in solution, this fuel can power regular road vehicles without modifications, offering extensive environmental benefits.

Not stopping there, Formula 1 is also tackling aviation-related emissions by investing in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) through partnerships with DHL and Qatar Airways. This initiative has already led to a reduction of over 8,000 tons of CO₂ during the off-site events in 2024.

The racing world is witnessing a green revolution like never before, with Formula 1 leading the charge towards a more sustainable and eco-conscious future. Get ready to experience the thrill of high-speed racing intertwined with a deep commitment to the planet’s well-being.
