Formula 1 is on the brink of a thrilling revolution, and the man at the helm, CEO Stefano Domenicali, is ready to take bold steps into the future! In an eye-opening press conference at Zandvoort, Domenicali revealed that both fans and drivers are clamoring for more Sprint races — a demand that’s gaining traction like never before!

Picture this: an electrifying weekend where every moment counts, and the excitement is palpable. Domenicali stated, “Everyone wants Sprints. Promoters are eager to pay for them, and now even the drivers are saying they want more!” The traditionalists may have their reservations, but the tide is turning. As the world of motorsport evolves, it’s clear that the Sprint format could become a staple, much like what we’ve seen in MotoGP.

The shift in sentiment among drivers is seismic. Once, there were only a handful who supported the Sprint concept, but now, it’s a complete turnaround! “During dinner in Austria, the drivers expressed overwhelming enthusiasm for more Sprints,” Domenicali said, highlighting this monumental change. “They were born to race, and they want that thrill of competition!”

But that’s just the beginning. The F1 CEO is also pushing for significant changes to the regulations post-2026, focusing on simplifying costs and enhancing the spectacle of the sport. With the majority of fans expressing fatigue over lengthy practice sessions, Domenicali is listening. “Our surveys show a clear preference for more action and fewer boring moments,” he added, indicating a shift towards a more engaging viewer experience.

Moreover, the concept of an “inverted grid” is back on the table! What was once dismissed as a ludicrous idea is now gaining serious consideration. “Many drivers have proposed the inverted grid format, and during our last meeting, they asked, ‘Why not give it a try?’” Domenicali noted. This could lead to unprecedented levels of excitement and unpredictability during races, reminiscent of formats already thriving in F2 and F3!

As the F1 landscape transforms, it’s essential to balance innovation with tradition. Domenicali acknowledges the need for respect towards long-standing fans while paving the way for a new era. “We are maturing as a sport, and this evolution must consider all viewpoints,” he stressed.

The future of Formula 1 is bright, and the call for more Sprint races, exciting new race formats, and bold strategies like the inverted grid could redefine what fans expect from motorsport. Buckle up, because the F1 Circus is about to get a whole lot wilder!
