Esteban Ocon, from the Alpine F1 team, took part in the Chinese Grand Prix on April 21, 2024, as part of the Formula 1 World Championship. The Formula 1 Commission decided to postpone its decision on extending the current points system to the next season to a later date. Discussions took place last week between Formula One Management (FOM), the FIA, and the 10 F1 teams regarding the points distribution for the top 12 positions from 2025 onwards. However, after further analysis, the Formula 1 Commission concluded that more detailed assessments were needed before a proposal could be considered in July. The proposed new format would allocate points in the following order: 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. This change aims to benefit teams struggling to secure a position in the top ten. Despite this, Esteban Ocon expressed his preference for lower-ranking teams to improve their performance and challenge the top five. Ocon believes that simply awarding points to lower-placed teams is like applying a temporary solution to a larger problem and that the ultimate goal should be to reduce the gap between all teams.

In other news, the announcement that Australia will host the first race of the 2025 season raised questions about whether Bahrain will continue to host winter testing. The Formula 1 Commission revealed that a proposal will be put forward by Formula One Management (FOM) for future discussions. Furthermore, the Formula 1 Commission approved the introduction of rear-facing cameras on cars starting from the 2024 Spanish Grand Prix. Several revisions to the Sporting and Financial Regulations were also made during the meetings, although specific details were not disclosed.
