F1 Champion Slams ‘Silly’ Monaco Grand Prix Rule Change: Fans Demand Answers

Jenson Button Slams F1 Monaco GP Rule Change as ‘Silly’ and Ineffective

Former Formula 1 champion Jenson Button has come out swinging against the recent rule changes implemented for the Monaco Grand Prix. The FIA, in an effort to spice up the notoriously processional race, mandated two tire changes for all teams during Sunday’s event.

Despite the efforts to increase entertainment and competitiveness, drivers and fans alike were left unimpressed by the lackluster spectacle on the iconic streets of Monaco. Max Verstappen, one of the sport’s biggest stars, expressed his dissatisfaction by stating, “Yeah, of course. I mean, I get it, but I don’t think it has worked.”

Button, speaking on Sky Sports, criticized the rule changes, highlighting instances where teams strategically slowed down or manipulated positions, ultimately undermining the integrity of the race. He lamented, “It’s a shame that it hasn’t worked. I love that we tried it as it needed something, but we need to work out a way how we can tweak it.”

Verstappen echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the inherent challenges of racing in Monaco regardless of the number of pit stops. He pointed out the difficulty in overtaking, even when leading the race with worn-out tires.

The Monaco Grand Prix, celebrating 40 years since a winner started outside the top three in dry conditions, failed to deliver the excitement fans had hoped for. Lando Norris secured a dominant victory from pole position, maintaining the trend of front-runners succeeding on the narrow and winding circuit.

As the F1 community reflects on the shortcomings of the recent rule changes, questions arise about the future of the sport and how to enhance the on-track action without compromising its essence.

Stay tuned for more updates and reactions from the world of Formula 1 as the debate over the Monaco GP rule change continues to unfold.
