Max Verstappen had his dominant streak in Formula 1 unexpectedly interrupted at the Australian Grand Prix, allowing Carlos Sainz of Ferrari to claim a 1-2 victory. The race at Albert Park was eventful, with Mercedes suffering a double retirement and Fernando Alonso receiving a penalty for dangerous driving. With 19 drivers on the grid and three retirements, let’s see how the drivers fared in this high rate of attrition race.

Carlos Sainz, who had recently undergone an appendicitis surgery, made a remarkable comeback and ended Verstappen’s winning streak. Despite not being in peak physical condition, Sainz overtook Verstappen and secured his third career victory in style.

Charles Leclerc, Sainz’s teammate at Ferrari, had a slight disadvantage in qualifying and was unable to challenge for the win with Verstappen out of the race. However, he managed to withstand the attacks from McLaren’s Lando Norris and secured a solid second place.

Lando Norris had a great performance in Melbourne, securing his 14th podium in Formula 1. Despite facing difficulties in free practice sessions, Norris showcased his skills in qualifying and managed to clinch the final podium spot.

Oscar Piastri had a disappointing qualifying session but recovered during the race. Despite relinquishing a position to Norris on team orders, Piastri finished in fourth place, a commendable result for his second year in Formula 1.

Sergio Perez faced a setback with a grid penalty, which hindered his chances of returning to the podium. Although he managed to overtake Alonso and Russell, he was unable to get past the McLaren duo due to debris stuck under the floor of his car.

Max Verstappen conquered an unexpected pole position in Melbourne, but suffered a brake fire on the fourth lap, ending his race prematurely. The Australian Grand Prix was a relatively calm weekend for Lance Stroll, but he managed to secure a solid result and accumulate valuable points.

Fernando Alonso had a disappointing performance in qualifying, but fought hard during the race. However, his defensive moves against Piastri resulted in a penalty, costing him sixth place, which was inherited by his teammate Stroll.

Yuki Tsunoda once again showed his skills, surpassing his Red Bull teammate, Daniel Ricciardo. While Ricciardo faced difficulties in qualifying and the race, Tsunoda delivered a mature performance and secured a respectable result.

Nico Hulkenberg faced difficulties in qualifying after being hindered by Perez. However, he made the most of the race and fought at the front of the midfield pack, achieving a valuable result for Haas.

Williams faced problems at the start of the weekend, with a crash in free practice and lack of a spare chassis. Despite these setbacks, Alex Albon managed to qualify in 12th, but was unable to score points due to the lack of pace in the car.

Alpine continued to face difficulties in Melbourne, with Pierre Gasly being eliminated in Q1. Esteban Ocon showed promise by reaching Q2, but his chances of scoring points were ruined by an early pit stop.

Valtteri Bottas had a turbulent start to the season, but showed improvement in Melbourne. However, problems in the pit stops cost him valuable time and made it difficult for him to score points.

The chances of Guanyu Zhou reaching Q2 were ruined when he damaged his front wing. Starting from the pitlane and facing slow pit stops, Zhou was unable to recover and secure a good result.

George Russell had a promising race, holding seventh place and closing in on Alonso. However, an incident on the last lap with Alonso cost him a solid result, highlighting his concentration lapses.

Lewis Hamilton continued to struggle with the car’s performance in Melbourne, failing to reach Q3. His race was cut short on the 15th lap due to an oil pressure loss while chasing Lance Stroll.
