Explosive Disqualification Shakes NASCAR: RFK Racing & Team Penske’s Dismal Fate at Talladega

In a shocking turn of events, RFK Racing faced a major setback as NASCAR dropped the hammer on Ryan Preece and Team Penske’s Joey Logano following the Cup race at Talladega. The disqualification of Preece and Logano sent ripples through the racing community, with both drivers being penalized for issues with the rear spoiler of their Ford Mustangs.

Despite finishing second in a thrilling photo finish, Preece was stripped of his position and relegated to 38th, while Logano, who initially secured fifth place, suffered the same fate, being classified in 39th. Both drivers were only awarded a single point each for their efforts, a bitter pill to swallow for the competitive duo.

Team Penske wasted no time in accepting NASCAR’s ruling, with Penske himself clarifying that the loose bolt on the spoiler was not intentional but a result of unforeseen circumstances during the race. RFK Racing also followed suit, opting not to appeal the decision and expressing their commitment to upholding NASCAR’s standards and integrity.

The fallout from the disqualifications was significant for both Preece and Logano in terms of the championship standings. Preece plummeted from 12th to 18th, losing his career-best finish and slipping out of the playoff grid. On the other hand, Logano’s demotion from eighth to eleventh in the standings was a bitter blow for the defending series champion, who was poised to secure his first top-five finish of the 2025 season.

The unintended infractions and subsequent disqualifications serve as a stark reminder of the fine margins and strict regulations that govern NASCAR racing. As the dust settles on Talladega, both RFK Racing and Team Penske will be looking to regroup and bounce back stronger in the upcoming races, determined to put this setback behind them and focus on future success on the track.
