Nick Cassidy, a driver for Jaguar TCS Racing, recently spoke to The Kiwi about his challenging season. After the race in Diriyah, Cassidy’s position in the Drivers’ Championship has been dropping due to other teams achieving early success over Jaguar. However, the upcoming race in Monaco presents a fresh start for Cassidy, as he had a memorable victory there last year while racing for Envision Racing. This increases his excitement to return to the principality.

“I’m really excited to race in Monaco,” said Cassidy. “It’s definitely one of the best events on the calendar, and I have special memories from last year. It was one of the most significant moments of my career, so I’m looking forward to going back.”

Although Cassidy and his team have confidence in their abilities, they acknowledge that they currently do not have the best package. They are aware of the need to work hard to improve their performance.

Cassidy’s Season 10 after Diriyah has been challenging, with several obstacles causing him to fall in the drivers’ standings. Many teams have matched Jaguar’s initial pace, impacting their chances of success. Despite this setback, Cassidy feels justified in his previous statements that Jaguar was not the team to beat. “It would be great to redeem my comments from that time and show everyone, because no one believed me back then, but I think everyone believes me now!”

After the recent race in Misano, Jaguar came away with a feeling of dissatisfaction as they did not reach their full potential. Cassidy retired in the first race due to a collision with Jean-Eric Vergne but managed to secure a podium on Sunday. He praised Porsche’s powertrain as the best on the grid. Despite the challenges faced, Cassidy believes the team should have been pleased with their achievements in Misano. He also expressed discontent with the inclusion of certain circuits on the calendar.

“They [Porsche] are the most efficient.

“I think I also mentioned DS, Maserati, McLaren, Nissan, Cupra, and for us to secure P3 when I think there were probably 14 cars stronger than us in Misano was a significant achievement.

“But back at the factory, I’m analyzing data, reviewing theories, working on development because I’m not giving up, we just need to work harder, find performance.

“Now the Championship is only running on dedicated tracks, which favors other teams more than us, and we need to strive to improve in these situations, so yes, we are still in the game, but we know it will be challenging because we don’t have the best package in these situations.

The inclusion of this type of track on the calendar was one of the main points of discussion during and after the Misano E-Prix weekend, replacing the popular Rome street circuit as the location in Italy for Season 10. Many drivers, including Cassidy’s teammate Mitch Evans, expressed concerns about the addition of more tracks of a similar nature, such as Silverstone. Despite the evolution of Formula E cars, Cassidy is not convinced that this is a contributing factor.

“I think discussing the evolution of cars and the increase in performance is just an excuse.

“I believe the best track I’ve driven a Formula E car on was Rome.

“If you were to ask all the drivers, 90% would say Rome and maybe 10% would say Riyadh.

“Those are the two best tracks for us, so it’s definitely not a problem with the car, I would say, but it’s better if I don’t talk too much.”

Since this interview, the GEN3 Evo car was launched before this weekend’s E-Prix, and Cassidy confirms that preparations to race with it next season have already begun.

“That work started some time ago.

“That’s one of the amazing things about being a factory driver. With Jag, you are involved in that process and I am really enjoying discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the current car and what we need from the next generation, so it is definitely a topic for us and we are moving forward on that as well.”
