Evans beats Neuville in thrilling Finland race

Elfyn Evans is making a strong effort to regain points in the World Rally Championship after suffering setbacks on Saturday. He is currently leading the standings on Super Sunday during the final day of Secto Rally Finland. Previously, Evans had been in second place behind his teammate Kalle Rovanperä on Saturday, but a broken front-right driveshaft and a delayed service dropped him out of the points-paying positions.

Thierry Neuville, his title rival, took advantage of the situation and climbed to third place. In response, Evans has performed well on Sunday, currently sitting in second place in the Sunday classification, just 1.2 seconds behind leader Rovanperä. Neuville, on the other hand, is in sixth place and was surprised to discover that he had lost four seconds to Evans on the first test.

Despite this setback, Neuville managed to outperform Evans by 0.2 seconds in the unconventional Laajavuori stage, even though he ran wide at the start. Sébastien Ogier is currently in third place on Super Sunday, strategically maintaining his pace to stay ahead of the Hyundais, but is 0.4 seconds behind his teammate Evans. Esapekka Lappi is also contributing to the team effort by supporting Neuville, but he felt that the cleaning effect on the Laajavuori stage, which is located on a ski slope, cost him time. Currently, Lappi is in fourth place, with Katsuta in fifth and Adrien Fourmaux in seventh, despite experiencing a wild moment on the Sahloinen-Moksi stage. Unfortunately, Sami Pajari is not in contention for Super Sunday points after veering off into a grass field on SS17.
