Esteban Ocon reveals shocking regrets over fierce Sergio Perez rivalry in explosive interview

Title: Esteban Ocon Reflects on Tumultuous Rivalry with Sergio Perez: “I Shouldn’t Have Done That”

In a candid revelation that has sent shockwaves through the Formula 1 community, Esteban Ocon has come clean about his controversial clashes with Sergio Perez during their tumultuous partnership at Force India back in 2017. As the adrenaline-fueled drama of the racing world unfolds, Ocon’s retrospective insights shed light on a rivalry that was not only fierce but also filled with memorable, and at times, regrettable moments.

Racing alongside Perez, who boasted a wealth of experience in his seventh season, Ocon found himself in the deep end. Together, they propelled Force India to a remarkable fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship, finishing in the points in every race except Monaco. However, the road to this success was marred by several high-stakes incidents where only one car emerged with points — a scenario often resulting from their contentious on-track battles.

Ocon’s and Perez’s rivalry was punctuated by four significant clashes, with two catastrophic encounters leaving Perez nursing retirements. The infamous Azerbaijan Grand Prix saw Ocon squeeze Perez into the wall, leading to a disastrous broken front suspension for the Mexican driver. In stark contrast, the Belgian Grand Prix showcased Perez’s aggressive maneuvering that ultimately left both drivers worse off, culminating in Ocon losing his front wing and Perez retiring the car altogether.

Despite the heated exchanges and barbed accusations of unprofessionalism exchanged between the two drivers, Ocon has now taken a step back and acknowledged his faults. Speaking on F1’s Off The Grid, he admitted, “There were moments where I did mistakes, there were moments where I don’t feel it was necessarily my fault.”

In his revelations, Ocon reflected on the intense pressure he faced during that inaugural season, stating, “I started clearly on the back foot in the first race. But then I managed to catch up well after that. And then we were racing very closely.” His youthful ambition, coupled with a desire to showcase his talents, led him into some precarious situations, which he now views with a more seasoned perspective.

Among the incidents that haunt him, Ocon specifically pointed to the clash in Spa, admitting, “These kinds of moments, it shouldn’t have happened. It cost the team points.” This admission reveals a deeper understanding of the team dynamics and the impact of individual actions on collective success. “I’ve made mistakes over my career, and things that I shouldn’t have done in racing but that’s how you learn from it,” he added, emphasizing the importance of growth through experience.

With the ever-evolving landscape of Formula 1, the potential for Ocon and Perez to reignite their rivalry has become a hot topic as Perez returns to the grid with Cadillac in a groundbreaking new era of racing. The anticipated competition between Haas and Cadillac could reignite the flames of their past encounters, as fans eagerly await any signs of a rematch.

In a sport where the stakes are as high as the speeds, Ocon’s reflection on his rivalry with Perez serves as a poignant reminder of the thin line between aggression and recklessness. As he moves forward in his career, the lessons learned from those fierce battles are sure to shape his approach on the track, but the question remains: will history repeat itself in the high-octane world of Formula 1?

For motorsport enthusiasts and insiders craving the latest developments, Ocon’s journey serves as a gripping saga of ambition, rivalry, and the relentless pursuit of excellence in the electrifying realm of Formula 1.
