Esteban Ocon Exposes Alpine Struggles: “No Joy in Seeing Them Fail”

French driver Esteban Ocon has opened up about his feelings towards Alpine’s current struggles, denying any pleasure in witnessing his former team’s challenges on the track. Despite the rocky relationship that led to his departure last season, Ocon clarified that he does not derive any satisfaction from Alpine’s difficulties.

Ocon’s journey with Alpine/Renault began positively in 2020, culminating in a memorable victory at the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix. However, tensions escalated as his exit loomed closer, notably sparked by a dramatic collision with teammate Pierre Gasly in Monaco. The decision for Ocon to join Haas for the 2025 season was announced in July 2024, marking a significant shift in his career trajectory.

Alpine’s performance this year has been inconsistent, highlighted by a mid-season driver swap between Jack Doohan and Franco Colapinto. Currently occupying the last spot in the constructors’ standings, Alpine’s struggles contrast with Haas’ surprising sixth-place position. Despite the disparity, Ocon emphasized that he remains focused on his new challenge at Haas and harbors no ill will towards his former team.

In response to inquiries about his sentiments towards Alpine’s plight, Ocon stated, “You never smile to see someone struggling. To me, it was very clear that I wanted to come here for a very long time.” Reflecting on the differences in aspirations between himself and the Alpine team, Ocon expressed the need for a fresh start and new objectives. While acknowledging Alpine’s occasional strong showings, Ocon remains resolute in his commitment to Haas and the opportunities that lie ahead.

The French driver’s candor sheds light on the complexities of professional sports relationships and the evolution of career paths in Formula 1. As Ocon navigates the competitive landscape of motorsport, his dedication to growth and success serves as a testament to the resilience and adaptability required in the elite racing world.
