In an unexpected twist, China’s FIA Formula E team, previously known as ERT, has sparked widespread intrigue after seemingly changing its name to Kiro Race Co, with speculation growing that the team could soon become a Porsche customer outfit. The rebranding has been subtly introduced, with social media posts mysteriously disappearing and the new identity cropping up on Formula E’s official website.
The team, which has struggled in recent seasons, originally made a name for itself as China Racing, propelling Nelson Piquet Jr to win the first-ever Formula E Drivers’ Championship in 2015. However, after that early success, they’ve failed to match their previous performance, with no race wins since and a podium drought dating back to Season 4. In Season 10, the team finished last in the Teams’ Championship with just 23 points, their best result being a fourth-place finish from Dan Ticktum at Misano.
This name change and rumored switch to using Porsche powertrains signal a potential strategic shift for the Silverstone-based squad. Reports have emerged that the team may no longer continue as a works constructor, choosing instead to partner with Porsche by running their old power units. If true, this could be a much-needed boost for a team that has struggled to remain competitive in recent seasons.
Driver changes are also in the spotlight, with Sacha Fenestraz—recently ousted from Nissan in favor of Norman Nato—reportedly in talks with the newly dubbed Kiro Race Co. Despite these rumors, it appears that current drivers Sergio Sette Camara and Dan Ticktum are set to remain with the team, with more details expected soon.
In a move adding to the anticipation, Kiro Race Co’s X account (formerly Twitter) now teases that “All will be revealed on 10.10.2024,” and a new website has been launched to hint at this impending announcement. With the motorsport world watching closely, Formula E fans are eager to learn what this rebranding will mean for the team’s future in the championship.
