Goodwood will pay tribute to the fascinating era of 1970s Can-Am cars with a demonstration featuring renowned brands such as Porsche, McLaren, Lola, and Shadow at the exclusive members meeting.

The exhibition will take place in two 15-minute sessions, the first on Saturday, April 13, at 13:40 local time, and the second on Sunday, April 14, at 13:50. Both sessions will be livestreamed on the Goodwood Road and Racing YouTube channel.

Era Motorsport has been entrusted with various responsibilities related to the Shadow Can-Am cars, including storage, transportation, testing, and track support services. The team has previously carried out similar tasks at historic events in the United States.

Each year of Shadow’s efforts in Can-Am will be represented by a model, with 1974 champion Jackie Oliver driving his Shadow DN4 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of his dominant campaign.

Jim Bartell, owner of six of the seven Shadow Can-Ams, commented: “In 1970, the mysterious Don Nichols made a dramatic entry into the unlimited Can-Am racing scene with the most innovative car ever conceived within the minimal rules of the time, the MKI Shadow.”

“The car was low to the ground and powered by a high-performance racing engine.”

“It shocked the racing world and was both a visually stunning car and a monumental failure.”

“It was so remarkable that it is still remembered five decades later.”

Kyle Tiley, owner of Era Motorsport team, expressed his excitement for the upcoming event: “I am absolutely thrilled about this weekend.

“I’ve been very involved with these cars and had the opportunity to drive many of them in the United States, but having them all gathered in one place, running simultaneously, is really special.

“Especially when it comes to a venue like Goodwood.”

“In recent weeks, we’ve been preparing the cars in our workshop in the UK to ensure they are all ready for the event. We also had the chance to test and finalize some of them at Donington a few weeks ago.

“Each car is absolutely insane.

“They are some of the most physically and mentally demanding cars I’ve ever driven, but the experience is incredible.

“I believe Goodwood fans will have a real treat this weekend, and I highly recommend witnessing the cars start; ear protection is advised.”

Tiley himself will join other endurance racing figures, such as Tom Kristensen and Marino Franchitti, to showcase these 1000hp machines, along with historic US drivers Jason Miller and Kirk Bennett.

In addition to the Shadow Can-Am cars, Era Motorsport will also compete in the Graham Hill Trophy with a customer’s TVR Griffith, amidst a grid of pre-1966 closed GT cars.
