The Assembly of the Republic approved on Thursday the PS bill to eliminate tolls on ex-SCUT, with the favorable votes of the socialists, Chega, BE, PCP, Livre and PAN, and the votes against PSD and CDS-PP and abstention from IL.
The proposal approved for now in general, provides for the elimination of tolls on sections and subsections of inland highways (ex-SCUT), or where there are no alternative routes that allow for use in quality and safety.
At stake are the tolls on the A4 (Transmontana and Marão Tunnel), A13 and A13-1 (Pinhal Novo), A22 (Algarve), A23 (Beira Interior), A24 (Interior Norte), A25 (Beira Litoral/Beira Alta) and A28 (Minho).
It is worth noting that the parties of the Government, PSD and CDS-PP, presented a resolution project that provided for a gradual and financially responsible reduction of tolls in the interior and in the major metropolitan areas, as well as an evaluation of the costs involved in adopting this measure and a study that establishes the base values that safeguard the maintenance costs of the roads.
