Embracing Change: Lewis Hamilton Excited by New Ferrari Experience at F1 Australian Grand Prix

In the world of Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton’s first race with Ferrari at the Australian Grand Prix was a landmark moment. The buzz surrounding Hamilton’s debut in the Ferrari garage was palpable, marking a new chapter in his illustrious career. After 12 successful seasons with Mercedes, the transition into the Ferrari fold is a profound change for Hamilton – one that he’s wholeheartedly embracing.

The opening day of practice at the Albert Park circuit saw Hamilton taking the wheel of the SF-25, a car significantly different from anything he has previously driven. Despite some initial challenges in acclimatizing to the new vehicle, Hamilton demonstrated his adaptability and tenacity. He recorded a deficit to Charles Leclerc in both practice sessions, trailing by six-tenths and four-tenths in FP1 and FP2 respectively.

Reflecting on his experience, Hamilton admitted that driving the Ferrari presents a unique set of challenges. However, he also expressed his excitement about the learning curve. “The car felt so much different to what I’ve ever experienced coming to this track,” he said. “Adjusting my driving style bit by bit, but enjoying driving.”

The transition from Mercedes to Ferrari is not just a change in team for Hamilton, but also a shift in driving style. The Ferrari demands a different approach behind the wheel, challenging the veteran driver to adapt and evolve. Despite the differences, Hamilton remains optimistic and committed to harnessing the full potential of his new ride.

Hamilton’s debut with Ferrari evoked memories of his maiden F1 race with McLaren in 2007. He described the feeling as “reminiscent of my first year”. Over the years, he had admired Ferrari from afar, but now finds himself a part of the iconic red garage – a sentiment that he cherishes.

Even before he revved up the Ferrari on the track, Hamilton expressed his positive outlook about the forthcoming season. “We’ve only had three days in the car, but it’s difficult to know where we stand with everyone else,” he said. “We’re just trying to keep our heads down and focus on our job.”

Hamilton’s enthusiasm for his new journey with Ferrari is evident as he anticipates a string of firsts with his new team throughout the year. “It’s been a long time coming, and to think that this is going to be my first Grand Prix—one of those other firsts with the team—as I experience that all through the year, it’s pretty special. I feel very honoured and very grateful to have the opportunity,” he expressed.

In the wake of Hamilton’s slow start to the Australian GP weekend, Ferrari remains unfazed. This monumental transition for Hamilton is seen as a stepping stone to a thrilling and fruitful period in his career, and for Ferrari, a chance to harness the skills of a world-class driver.
