Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid Diagnosed with Lateral Meniscus Injury
Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid has been diagnosed with a lateral meniscus injury, according to basketball insider Marc Stein. The 29-year-old player underwent an MRI after leaving Tuesday’s game against the Golden State Warriors early. Embiid, who had been dealing with knee soreness, appeared to be in pain after Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga fell on his left leg.
This is not the first time Embiid has dealt with meniscus injuries. As a rookie in 2016-17, he missed multiple games due to a bone bruise and torn meniscus. Although surgery was initially not expected, Philadelphia later announced that the meniscus tear had worsened, leading to a season-ending arthroscopic procedure.
During the 2021 postseason, Embiid revealed that he had a torn meniscus in his right knee during the 76ers’ first-round series against the Washington Wizards. Despite missing their series-clinching Game 5, he returned immediately after and played in all seven games of their conference semifinals against the Atlanta Hawks. Throughout the series, Embiid showcased his skills, averaging 30.4 points, 12.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists, two blocks, and one steal in 37.4 minutes per game.
Embiid’s recovery timeline is uncertain at this point, but he will be out through at least the weekend as the team finalizes a treatment plan. Fans will be eagerly awaiting updates on his condition and hoping for a swift recovery.
