The new Volvo EM90, the first 100% electric minivan from Volvo Cars, will be presented on November 12th, but the Swedish brand has already announced that the new model, initially intended for the Asian markets, has been designed so that its users can make the most of their time spent in the car – in a safe and comfortable way.
In this way, Volvo Cars brings its heritage for the first time to the segment of fully electric MPVs, with the EM90 being built around a safety cage, a structure composed of various forms of high-strength steel, including boron steel, which efficiently help to compensate for the impact of a possible collision.
Inside this cabin, the airbags are strategically positioned to help provide passenger protection. The double A-pillars help clear the field of vision while contributing to maintaining the safety structure.
In addition, the Volvo minivan is equipped with the latest safety technologies, with software and a wide range of sensors consisting of high-definition cameras, surround vision cameras, a millimeter wave radar, and ultrasonic sensors.
Volvo also announced that the EM90 is equipped with the latest battery protection technologies, including a robust structure made of steel and aluminum that allows for safe and stable performance in real-world collision scenarios.
In addition to safety, the Swedish brand confirmed that the model that marks its debut in the minivan segment has been designed to maximize well-being and comfort in the interior, offering a spacious cabin width as well as a wide range of intelligent storage features.
As standard, the new model comes equipped with Volvo’s air purification technology. Pre-ionization and a fiber-based filter in the air purification system can, according to Volvo, remove up to 95% of all PM 2.5 particles.
In addition, the minivan includes 21 Bowers & Wilkins speakers integrated throughout the cabin and incorporated into the headrests of the first-row seats, creating a unique interior sound experience, supported by 2,460 W of power.
“The EM90 has been designed to provide comfort and peace of mind in a Scandinavian style. It is a car that sets a new standard for modern luxury – a word that we currently associate with the expression ‘quality of life’,” said Erik Severinson, Global Head, New Car Programs at Volvo Cars.
