Hankook Tire Revolution: The Battle Between Soft and Hard Compounds Unveiled

In the scorching heat of Sardinia, teams at the World Rally Championship faced a critical decision: soft or hard tires? While the traditional choice for such high temperatures would be the hard compound, some daring teams opted for the soft Hankooks, defying expectations.

Hankook, known for its robust tires, entered the rally scene with a clear mission – to minimize tire failures. And they succeeded admirably. However, as the championship progresses, whispers of change are in the air.

The overlap between the Hankook Dynapro WRC3 (hard) and WRC7 (soft) compounds is raising questions about strategic tire choices. World championship leader Elfyn Evans expressed his uncertainty, highlighting the challenges posed by the hard compound in the scorching Sardinian conditions.

Spokesperson Steven Cho shed light on the tire dynamics, emphasizing the wide operating window of both compounds. While drivers strive for optimal performance, Hankook is considering widening the gap between the hard and soft compounds to introduce more variability and strategic choices.

Looking ahead to the Acropolis Rally and beyond, Hankook is contemplating tire modifications to adapt to changing conditions. The need for a more open-pattern tire in wetter terrains and improved degradation characteristics are on the agenda.

Despite some teams still adjusting to the 2025-grade tires, Hankook’s commitment to tire durability and performance in the WRC is unwavering. The tire manufacturer’s dedication to delivering top-notch products for the demanding world of rallying is commendable.

As the battle between soft and hard compounds rages on, Hankook remains at the forefront of tire innovation, constantly evolving to meet the challenges of the dynamic rally landscape.
