The Portuguese Automobile Association (ACAP) revealed that in the month of April, 8184 new electric, plug-in, and electric hybrid passenger cars were registered, representing a 26% growth compared to the same month of the previous year.
Overall, in the first four months of 2024, the registrations of these types of passenger cars totaled 33,838 units, showing a positive variation of 16.4% compared to the same period in 2023.
By categories and types of vehicles, in April, 2823 new 100% electric passenger cars were registered in Portugal, which represents a 40.7% increase compared to the same month of the previous year.
In the first four months of 2024, there was a 17.7% increase compared to the same period of the previous year, with 12,247 new electric passenger cars registered.
Regarding light commercial vehicles, ACAP revealed that the market for electric, plug-in, and electric hybrid vehicles showed a positive evolution of 85.7% in April compared to the same month in 2023, with 325 units registered. Cumulatively, this market reached 976 units, representing a 31.5% growth compared to the previous year.
For 100% electric light commercial vehicles, in the fourth month of 2024, there was an 86.2% growth in registrations compared to the same month of the previous year. From January to April, ACAP recorded a growth of 31.4% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Regarding the heavy vehicle market, which includes passenger and freight types, three new electrified heavy vehicles were registered in April, representing a decrease of 95.3%.
In cumulative terms from January to April, there was a negative evolution of 56.2% compared to the same period in 2023, with 32 vehicles of this type being registered.
