The Portuguese Automobile Association (ACAP) revealed that in the month of June, 8871 new electric, plug-in, and electric hybrid passenger cars were registered in the national market, representing a growth of 2.6% compared to the same month of the previous year.
Overall, in the first semester of 2024, registrations of these types of passenger cars totaled 51,763 units, which corresponds to a positive variation of 12.5% compared to the same period in 2023.
In terms of categories and types of vehicles, 3820 new 100% electric passenger cars were registered in Portugal in June, representing an increase of 16.1% compared to the same month of the previous year.
Between January and June, there was a 12.5% increase in new 100% electric passenger cars compared to the same period in 2023, with 19,214 units registered.
Regarding light commercial vehicles, ACAP revealed that the market for electric, plug-in, and electric hybrid vehicles did not show any variation in the sixth month of 2024 compared to the same month last year, with 235 light commercial vehicles of this type registered. In cumulative terms, this market reached 1329 units, representing a growth of 15.1% compared to the same period in 2023.
In terms of 100% electric light commercial vehicles, there was also no variation in June. Overall, in the first semester, there was a growth of 14.9% compared to the same period in the previous year.
Regarding the heavy vehicle market, which includes passenger and cargo types, eight new electrified heavy vehicles were registered in June, representing a decrease of 71.4%.
In cumulative terms from January to June, there is a negative evolution of 61.9% compared to the same period in 2023, with 51 vehicles of this type being registered.
