If you are a user of electric scooters, take note that starting Friday, June 20, liability insurance will be mandatory for scooters and electric ‘scooters’, ‘segways’, and ‘hoverboards’, with the PSP responsible for enforcing this new measure.
The decree-law that comes into effect tomorrow covers motorized vehicles with a maximum speed exceeding 25 km/h or a weight exceeding 25 kg and a speed greater than 14 km/h.
If the vehicle has these characteristics, it is mandatory to have liability insurance, “regardless of the characteristics of the vehicle, the terrain on which it is used, or whether it is parked or in motion”, states the document published in the Diário da República.
Excluded from this liability insurance requirement are “wheelchairs intended exclusively for persons with physical disabilities.”
