Chris Dyson has once again proven his prowess behind the wheel, securing his fourth Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli pole of the season at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) with a blistering lap time of 1m42.509s in his No. 16 GYM WEED Ford Mustang. Dyson’s performance was the highlight of an action-packed qualifying session, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting race on Sunday.
The pole position marks another high point in what has been a challenging season for Dyson, who remains optimistic about finishing strong as the season winds down. Reflecting on his performance, Dyson credited recent testing at VIR and praised his team’s hard work.
“The car’s been fantastic since we got here,” Dyson stated. “We were here back in August and did some testing, and we found some performance and we’ve been able to hold onto it through the last couple of race weekends. I think it’s carried through here in Virginia.”
While Dyson dominated in the TA class, newcomer Brian Lock in the No. 68 Helium Mobile/JDI/Blockjoy Porsche GT3 R was the fastest in XGT, signaling his arrival with an impressive debut. Eric Foss took the top spot in SGT in his first-ever start, piloting the No. 54 South Dallas Turf Chevrolet Corvette, while Chris Coffey emerged as the fastest driver in the GT class.
Dyson is determined to close the season on a high note after a tough year on the scoreboard. “It’s been a tough season in a lot of ways, certainly from a scoring standpoint. So, at this point, we’re trying to finish this season strong and head into 2025 with the wind at our back.”
The TA/XGT/SGT/GT race is scheduled for Sunday at 1:20 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on MAVTV. For those unable to catch the live action, a highlights show will air on MAVTV on Thursday, October 10 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
