The Formula 2 season comes to an end this Sunday in Abu Dhabi, with only two drivers having a chance to be champions in the last Feature race of the year. This is the last title to be awarded in the Formula 1 paddock.
The leader is Théo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix), with 16 points more than Frederik Vesti (Prema) – the winner of Saturday’s Sprint race. The advantage on tomorrow’s starting grid is with Vesti, who will start from ninth, while Pourchaire will start from 14th – and would be champion if these were also the final positions. The advantage in number of wins is on Vesti’s side, so the Danish driver will be champion if he recovers 16 points.
We will now show you the title scenarios.
Théo Pourchaire is champion if:
- He finishes ahead of Frederik Vesti
- He finishes in the top five with the fastest lap, regardless of Frederik Vesti’s result
- He finishes in the top four, regardless of Frederik Vesti’s result
- He finishes in sixth, seventh, or eighth place, without a win from Frederik Vesti; fastest lap is irrelevant in this scenario
- He finishes in ninth with the fastest lap, as long as Frederik Vesti does not win
- He crosses the finish line in tenth if Frederik Vesti does not go beyond third
- He does not score points, if Frederik Vesti finishes third without the fastest lap (or below)
Frederik Vesti is champion if:
- He wins and Théo Pourchaire finishes sixth or worse without the fastest lap
- He wins with the fastest lap and Théo Pourchaire does not go beyond fifth
- He finishes second with the fastest lap, with Théo Pourchaire below eighth
- He finishes second without the fastest lap, as long as Théo Pourchaire is at most ninth without the fastest lap
- He finishes third with the fastest lap and Théo Pourchaire does not score points
