In what can be termed as a significant move in the world of motorsports, DragonSpeed has confirmed the recruitment of Giacomo Altoe. Altoe will be at the wheel of the GTD PRO No.81 Ferrari 296 GT3 for the remaining season of the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. He will be driving alongside Albert Costa, whose full-time driver status was confirmed earlier.

Altoe, a star in the motorsports arena, made his mark in Formula 4 and TCR racing in his native Italy before transitioning to GT racing in 2018. His prowess on the track was evident as he clinched the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe Pro and Italian GT Championship crowns. In 2019, Altoe added another feather to his cap by winning the International GT Open Championship, a year which also marked his initial appearance at the prestigious IMSA race at Daytona.

The outstanding performance of Altoe at this year’s Rolex 24 for Ferrari GTD customer Conquest Racing was a testament to his racing skills. His instrumental role in steering Conquest to a GTD PRO class victory at Road America, during a one-off entry in the previous year’s race, secured him the full-time seat for the rest of 2025.

DragonSpeed Team Principal Elton Julian expressed his excitement about Altoe joining the team on a full-time basis. He highlighted that Altoe’s experience and success with the 296 GT3, mirroring that of Albert and Davide Rigon, will make him an ideal addition to the team as they aim for more podium finishes and victories in the ongoing season.

Rigon, another Ferrari works driver, had showcased his skills at the Rolex 24 At Daytona and will be sharing the driving duties with Costa for the remaining Michelin Endurance Cup events. The stellar driver is slated to begin his FIA World Endurance Championship drive for Vista AF Corse in Qatar this week. At the Rolex 24, Rigon and Costa, along with Miguel Molina and Thomas Neubauer, secured a sixth-place finish in GTD PRO at Daytona while driving the yellow No.81 Ferrari, prepared with the assistance of Risi Competizione.

This exciting reshuffle in DragonSpeed’s full-time GTD PRO line-up is anticipated to bring more thrilling moments and victories for motor racing fans. As the team gears up to take on the rest of the 2025 season, one can only wait and watch how these changes impact their performance on the track.
