Hours after the conclusion of the United States Grand Prix Formula 1 race, two disqualifications were recorded: Lewis Hamilton, who had finished second, and Charles Leclerc, who had finished sixth.
In both cases, the violation was similar and of a technical nature. The issue concerns the rear skid in the area defined by the technical delegate’s report, which was outside the boundaries outlined by the regulations.
The representatives of Hamilton’s team (Mercedes) and Leclerc’s team (Ferrari) were heard, and both acknowledged that the measurement was correct. They believe that the high wear of the component may be due to the combination of the various bumps on the Austin asphalt and the adapted schedule for the sprint race, which allowed less time to set up and check the cars before the main race.
